The conversations will evolve around two main projects: RABDOMANTE by Joaquin Fargas, and The Right to Shade | The Fight for Light by Mari Nagem. Both projects turn resource scarcity into a question of access and equity. Rabdomante draws water from the atmosphere in the Atacama Desert, the driest place on Earth, fusing solar-powered technology with the ancient intuition of dowsing to imagine a utopian response to extreme drought—transforming a mythic search for hidden water into a tangible, working device. The Right to Shade shifts the lens from water to sun, mapping shade disparities and corresponding heat indexes in Fortaleza, Brazil, while putting the project in conversation with New York City's ongoing fight for access to sunlight. Moving between the need for shade and the need for light, the work considers access to both as unevenly distributed urban resources shaped by socio-economic, housing politics, and climate.
