Retooling: Art, Ecology, & Climate Adaptation

As part of Retooling: Art, Ecology, & Climate Adaptation, MESH_ARTS and BioBAT Art Space present an afternoon of Lightning Presentations bringing together artists, researchers, and NYU students/alumni whose work engages with climate and ecology.

Featuring artists: Alex Nathanson, Laura Splan, Marina Komiya, Katie Fisher, & Gesche Würfel 

The program asks:
- What happens when artwork shifts from representing ecological problems to functioning as an ecological tool?
- What kinds of ecological tools emerge when artists, researchers, and humanities practitioners work across disciplines?

Through a series of 15-minute presentations, participants will share projects, research, experiments, methodologies, and works in progress that approach creative and interdisciplinary practice as a form of ecological tool-making.

Across diverse disciplines and approaches, each presenter explores how art, science, technology, research, and community-based practices can develop accessible pedagogies, methods, and tools that expand environmental understanding and support responses to climate change.

The afternoon is intended to generate discussion, interdisciplinary exchange, and collective inquiry, using the presentations as starting points for sharing knowledge, testing ideas, and considering how creative practices can contribute to more accessible and participatory approaches to climate action.

The Lightning Presentations are part of Retooling: Art, Ecology, & Climate Adaptation, an exhibition and public program organized and curated by MESH_ARTS and BioBAT Art Space during Climate Week NYC.
